A
COMPROMISE deal was struck between the Democratic Youth Forum, a front
organization of the UPDF, and the Santu Larma faction of the Jana Samhati
Samiti in Bandar of Chittagong
under the mediation of the local Bengali activists and in the presence of the
police.
Under
the terms of the agreement, reached on 9 July, both sides agreed to stop
attacking each other and let each other carry out organizational activities
freely and without hindrance in Bandar area.
The
JSS (Santu) side also agreed to withdraw a case filed with the Bandar police
station against some DYF members. The case was withdrawn the following day.
On
the other hand, the DYF agreed to pay Taka 5,500 to a member of the Santu group
as compensation for the injuries he sustained during a fight with DYF
activists.
The
written part of the deal, a copy of which has been obtained by chtnews.com, does not include all
the details of what was agreed.
The
agreement was written rather by a raw hand and it looks more like a personal
deal between two individuals, with even the date of the signing is missing.
From
the DYF side, it was signed by Shibu Chakma, vice president of DYF Bandar Thana
unit, while from JSS side by Chiku Chakma, president of its Bandar unit.
On
behalf of the mediators, Mohammad Iqbal Hossain and Md. Farooq Hossain put
their signature on the deal.
Police
Sub-Inspector Farooq was also present at the signing event.
Later,
the police formally signed and sealed the deal.
Mikel
Chakma, general secretary of the Democratic Youth Forum, hailed the agreement
and said they would strictly abide by its terms.
